John Ray Woodman, age 71, of Coopersville, MI, born March 25, 1946 in Howard City, MI to the late Floyd and Ruth (Nechvatal) Woodman. He was an Air Force Veteran and served as an Aircraft Mechanic on the C-130 Hercules at N. Charleston AFB , SC where he met his wife, Bonnie. He worked for Meijer Inc., starting out in one of the stores and worked his way up through the company to become a buyer. He thoroughly enjoyed tinkering around and doing woodworking around the house. He also enjoyed antique cars and belonged to the Grand Rapids Antique Car Club driving his '64 Corvair Convertible in parades and other club outings. The only sport he ever watched was NASCAR – and his personal favorite was Jeff Gordon, whom he got to meet one day. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Bonnie, daughter, Brenda (Rick) of Grand Rapids and son John Jr (Annie) Woodman of Mililani, HI. He will also be missed by his four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, sisters Shirley (Roger) Loper of Lowell and Irene (Les) Darr of Grand Rapids, MI, and a favorite nephew, Gary of Painesville, OH, plus many other nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Roland Smith of CT, Thomas Woodman of Ohio and a sister Barbara McDonald Boshhoven, of Comstock Park, MI. Cremation has taken place. Relatives and Friends may meet the family July 9th, Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St, Coopersville, in celebration of Johns life. A Private graveside services will be held at Bunker Hill Cemetery, Goshen Twp, Mahoning Cty, Ohio. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to St. Mary’s Critical Care Unit or the Lacks Cancer Center, both of Grand Rapids, MI. Both units were extremely kind and helpful during Johns’ long illness.
