Elmer Jay Buist Of Allendale formerly of Coopersville Elmer Buist passed peacefully, surrounded by family into the presence of his heavenly Father on Friday, November 6, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerrit and Alvina Buist and his brother James Buist. Elmer is survived by his best friend and wife of 55 years, Janet Ruth (Lundberg) Buist, and will be deeply missed by Janet and their children Jill (Tim) Sprik, Barbara J. Buist (Scott Morter), and Jason (Laurie) Buist, and grandchildren Emily, Daniel, Jordan, and Cassidy Sprik, and Caleb, Elijah, Joseph, Miriam, and Anna Buist. He is also survived by his brother, John Buist, sisters Wilma DeBoer and Henrietta VanRyswyk, brother and sister-in-law Ron and Arlene Briggs, and many nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Elmer was retired from a long career at Grand Valley State University. Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting, woodcarving, bonfires with friends, gardening, and visiting with the elderly. He was a loving husband, father, and friend whose sense of humor and service to others were at the heart of who he was. He will be missed by all who were blessed to know him and whose lives were impacted by him in many ways. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Coopersville Reformed Church with Rev. Greg Stamm officiating. Burial will take place in Nunica Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday 6 to 9 P.M. at the Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville.
