Berenice “Arlene” Frazier (Parish) passed away February 13, 2010, after a long struggle with dementia. She was born December 28, 1922, the daughter of Erwin and Berenice Parish (Sheridan) in Coopersville, Michigan. After graduating from Coopersville High School in 1940, Arlene attended business school and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. She was stationed at Cherry Point, North Carolina where she met her husband of 63 years, Edgar Woodrow “Woody” Frazier. After the war, Arlene and Woody made their home in Coopersville where they raised three children. Arlene worked as a legal secretary, operated a retail store with Woody in Coopersville and later retired from the Coopersville Post Office. She was a very active member of the United Methodist Church, where she had many friends. Arlene is remembered for her gracious, loving, compassionate nature which led her to help others–particularly the elderly--in the community. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and golfing and bowling with her friends. Arlene’s husband, Woody, preceded her in death on January 26, 2006. Arlene is survived by sister Mariann Grant, her three children Jan Starner (Ron Brandt), of Huntley, Illinois, Lon (Barbara) Frazier of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Robert (Shirley) Frazier of Oakland, Michigan; by grandchildren Andrew, Trisha, Megan, Joshua, Alex, Adrienne, Rachael and Nicole; and great-grandchildren Lillian and Carson. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 16 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Throop Funeral home, 214 Church Street, Coopersville, Michigan, and Wednesday from 10:00-11:00 am at the United Methodist Church. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am at the Coopersville United Methodist Church, 105 North 68th Ave. in Coopersville, with a luncheon immediately following the service. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Southwest Michigan or Coopersville United Methodist Church. An online guestbook is available at Throop - Coopersville 616-837-8161
